The Story

I used to draw and sketch constantly as a kid. My parents struggled to find a “punishment” that worked, because no matter the circumstance, my creativity always found a way to make the best of it. If you saw me back then, I probably had a pencil in hand and a sketchbook or loose paper nearby. I drew every chance I got.

Around that time, I was told not to pursue art because “artists die broke.” I was also warned against becoming an engineer because they were “too rigid.” So, naturally, I found myself drawn to design—a space that sat somewhere in between the two.

After more than a decade in the design industry, one simple sentence from my daughter woke something up inside me. She came to me and said, “Daddy, can you help me draw this?” In that moment, it felt like my younger self reached out to my older self with a message: it was time to come back to art.

So I did. I helped her draw, and then I picked up the pencil again for myself.

That’s what StudioOfElsewhere is all about—letting go of the baggage, unlocking the door to every creative pursuit I’ve imagined, and running through it full speed. It’s a return, a revival, and a journey I’m documenting for anyone who wants to come along.
